Focus and Scope
The Journal of Teaching and Research in English Literature (JTREL) (ISSN 0975-8828) is an international, open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed journal published quarterly by the Literature Special Interest Group of the English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI).
The journal provides a platform for scholarly engagement among teachers, researchers, and students working in the broad area of English literature. It publishes original research articles, book reviews, interviews with authors, and poetry, and welcomes contributions from both established and early-career scholars. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Literary theory and criticism
- Postcolonial literature
- Comparative literature
- Gender studies
- Ecocriticism
- Digital humanities
- Indian writing in English
- World literatures in English
- Pedagogical perspectives on teaching literature
The journal also accepts:
- Poems (in English)
- Book reviews (of books published within the last two years)
- Interviews with contemporary writers, critics, or translators
History of the Journal
JTREL was launched in 2009 as a platform to showcase research and teaching practices in English Literature in India and beyond. Over the years, it has evolved into a respected academic journal with a national and international readership. It continues to serve as a medium for both emerging and established scholars in the field.
Open Access Policy
Journal of Teaching and Research in English Literature (JTREL) is fully committed to open access publishing. All articles published in JTREL since 2009 are freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication. Readers are permitted to read, download, copy, and distribute the published content in any medium or format for noncommercial purposes, provided the work is not altered or transformed in any way and appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source.
Copyright Policy
JTREL publishes all content under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). This license permits users to share the material with proper attribution, but does not allow commercial use or the creation of derivative works.
Article Processing Charges
JTREL does not charge any article processing charges (APCs), submission fees, or publication fees. The journal is fully open access and free for both authors and readers.
However, as the journal is solely sponsored by the English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI), Indian authors are expected to be members of ELTAI at the time of publication. This ensures the sustainability of the journal and supports the broader mission of ELTAI to promote English language and literature education in India. Sponsorship Disclosure
JTREL is published by the English Language Teachers' Association of India (ELTAI), a registered association that promotes professional development of English language teachers in India. The journal receives no commercial sponsorship and does not accept advertisements. Its operations are financially supported by the ELTAI membership fee as part of the association’s mission to promote teaching and research in English literature.
Archiving Policy
Journal of Teaching and Research in English Literature (JTREL) is committed to the long-term preservation of its published content. To ensure the continued accessibility of its scholarly articles, JTREL participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN).
The PKP PN is a distributed archiving system that uses LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) technology to preserve content in a decentralised, secure, and redundant manner. This system ensures that all articles remain accessible even in the event of server failure, publisher discontinuation, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Through this initiative, JTREL guarantees the integrity and perpetual availability of its publications in support of open and sustainable access to academic research.
