About the Journal

The Journal of English Language Teaching (JELT) is an international, double-blind, peer-reviewed scholarly journal published bimonthly by the English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI). Established in 1965 (before the formation of ELTAI in 1969 and its formal registration in 1974), JELT has maintained uninterrupted publication for six decades.

As the flagship publication of ELTAI, the journal provides a rigorous academic platform for research and critical inquiry in English language teaching, applied linguistics, teacher education, and related areas of English studies. It publishes scholarship that addresses teaching and learning across diverse educational, linguistic, and sociocultural contexts.

The journal operates under a clearly defined editorial governance structure and maintains full editorial independence in all publication decisions.

Focus and Scope

JELT publishes original, high-quality scholarly work exploring all aspects of teaching English as a second or foreign language.

The journal welcomes contributions from educators, teacher trainers, researchers, and scholars at various stages of their academic careers. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

Publication Frequency

JELT is published bimonthly, with six issues annually in the following cycles: January–February, March–April, May–June, July–August, September–October, and November–December

The journal follows a rolling submission policy. Manuscripts are accepted throughout the year and must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system. Submissions via email are not accepted.

Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure objectivity, academic integrity, and methodological rigour. Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit, relevance to the journal’s scope, and adherence to ethical standards. The journal maintains full editorial independence.

Open Access Policy

JELT follows a Diamond Open Access publishing model.

  • No submission fees
  • No article processing charges (APCs)
  • No publication fees

All digital versions of published articles are freely accessible immediately upon publication. This ensures equitable dissemination of scholarship without financial barriers for authors or readers.

Print copies are distributed to ELTAI members as part of the Association’s academic outreach.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright of their work. All articles published in JELT are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence. Under this licence, users are permitted to share the material in any medium or format, provided that appropriate credit is given to the author(s) and the journal, a link to the licence is included, and any changes made are clearly indicated. Proper attribution must include author name(s), article title, journal title, volume, issue, year, and DOI. Users may not use the material for commercial purposes or distribute the modified material.

Digital Identification and Archiving

JELT assigns Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to all published articles to ensure persistent identification and stable citation.

The journal participates in the LOCKSS/CLOCKSS archival system to guarantee long-term digital preservation and continued accessibility of its content.

Publication Ethics and Integrity

JELT adheres to recognised standards of publication ethics and transparency in scholarly communication.

Any violation of publication ethics or conduct that compromises the integrity of the review or publication process will be treated as potential misconduct. Suspected cases are investigated in consultation with the editorial board. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with established ethical guidelines.
